- Based on a Dream: Paul stated he got the idea after having a dream of Gordon having arms coming out of his boiler. He used this idea for the climax.
- Keep Circulating the Tapes: The original upload version of Project G-1 was removed from YouTube for violating the site's Community Guidelines, likely because of two scenes showing James & Smudger being "tickled" by the steamies, which almost brings to mind imagery of the two engines being raped. It was later re-uploaded with those scenes cut out. The deleted scenes can be seen here.
- Spiritual Successor: Of a sort, to Bertha: The True Story, also by Paul. In it, the titular machine was highly sentient, and a series of unfortunate and tragic events led to her not exactly taking kindly to being locked away in an abandoned factory.
- Word of God: According to a follow-up video released by Paul, British Rail Class 46 46009 and the nuclear flask it hits during the Old Dalby nuclear flask test, seen in the stock footage used at the end of Shed 17 both have names! 46009 is named 'Larry the Loco', and the nuclear flask is called 'Nellie the Nuclear Flask''.
