• Golden Raspberry Award: It was nominated for two; Worst Supporting Actor for David Hasselhoff and Worst Prequel, Sequel, Ripoff, or Remake. Surprisingly, it lost both to The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2.
• What Could Have Been: Earlier drafts of the film's screenplay were slightly darker (including Josh stabbing Shelby to death after being maimed by the piranha) and featured more of the giant piranha from the 2010 movie's ending.
