- Mutually Fictional: In 19.9 Nora picks out a jigsaw puzzle with box art of "five kids in 1920s clothing, viewed from above, all laying stretched out in a field of red flowers" and discusses a model of the Birdcage, referencing two of Wildbow's other works that are mutually fictional with the universe of Pact and Pale.
- Sudden Name Change: Pale's name was originally Poof, but after posting the first chapter Wildbow received feedback regarding the word's status as a homophobic slur in the UK. The title was then changed to Pale to avoid any more blowback, especially after his previous work received some criticism for its portrayal of LGBT people.
