  • Adaptation Overdosed: First was the 1958 live-action series, then the contemporary series of films. Then came the 1972 anime series, the 1981 live-action film, the 1999 gag-anime series and numerous manga adaptations over the years.
  • Milestone Celebration: The 50th anniversary of Moonlight Mask was commemorated in 2008 with a retrospective book and reruns of the series.
  • Missing Episode: Episodes 1, 9-12, 41 and 44, all part of the first arc, are missing. The scripts for episodes 1, 41 and 44 are known to be held at Ritsumeikan University Art Research Center, and a reconstruction of the first episode was released in 2011, and even the reconstruction kept disappearing and reappearing on the internet.
  • No Dub for You: Although the Latino Spanish dub of the 1972 anime has been broadcast in the U.S., there has been no English language release in North America.
  • Sequel in Another Medium: While the show ended after five chapters, a sixth entitled The Fang of the Dragon was.printed as a manga in Shonen Club Magazine.
  • Star-Making Role: The Latin American Spanish dub of the animated adaptation was this for Blas GarcĂ­a for the titular hero, along with The Thing.
  • The Other Darrin: Quite a few main cast members were replaced between series chapters.
    • Gorohachi was played by Shiro Kano in Chapter 1, then by Kanichi Tani in the later chapters.
    • Kaboko was played by Yoshiko Uno in Chapter 1, Mako Hiwa in Chapter 2, Chiharu Kuri in Chapter 4 and Yukie Nunochi in Chapter 5.
    • Konomi was played by Kumie Sarukawa in the first two chapters, then by Noriko Yamada in the later chapters.
    • Matsuda was played by Ichiro Sato in Chapter 1, then by Ryuzo Chiba in the later chapters.
    • Yamamoto was played by Chikao Ohtsuka in the first two chapters, Kyosuke Hanada in Chapter 4 and Kuniaki Tanaka in Chapter 5.
    • And then the whole cast was replaced for the contemporary Toei film adaptations.
  • Working Title: "Nikko Kamen", after the Nikko Bodhisattva in Buddhism, and "Moonlight Kingnote .
