• Follow the Leader: This is one of the many failed shows Comedy Central produced to try and recreate the success of Chappelle's Show after Season 3's troubled production and eventual departure of host Dave Chappelle resulted in its cancellation, before the critically and commercially successful Key & Peele being seen as its true Spiritual Successor. ^note  Mind of Mencia ironically lasted for 4 seasons and 52 episodes while Chappelle's Show lasted for two-and-a-quarter seasons and 28 episodes
  • Lampshaded by Mencia in the first 10 seconds of the first episode.
• Screwed by the Network: Inverted. Despite its universally negative reception, the show was initially popular enough to be renewed for three additional seasons, before being cancelled due to Carlos Mencia refusing to film a fifth season.
