• Dyeing for Your Art: Waterhouse had to get his hair cut short when he was cart as Briarley for To Serve Them All My Days, which posed a problem as Adric - his next role - was supposed to have shaggy hair. The solution? Wear a wig for the first few stories. Waterhouse sported his natural hair from around the time of "Castrovalva" onward.
• Enforced Method Acting: While on location shooting for the final scene of "Castrovalva", Waterhouse was feeling ill due to taking advantage of his motel mini-bar the night before. He looks distinctly pallid and when the Doctor is talking to Tegan and Nyssa, the sound of him hurling behind a tree can be faintly heard. This all works in context, though, as Adric had just escaped from being held captive by The Master and anyone in that situation would be feeling ill.
• Promoted Fanboy: Waterhouse got in star in Doctor Who and Dark Shadows, both franchises he has been a fan of since childhood. A lucky example since he got to live out this trope TWICE.
