Trivia / Maria Clara at Ibarra

Go To

  • California Doubling: Vigan in Ilocos Norte is sometimes used as a shooting location, even though the show is set in Manila. Given how Vigan became a tourist attraction due to the numerous Spanish colonial era houses still standing, this doesn't come as a surprise.
  • Career Resurrection: For David Licuaco who is on the verge of quitting showbiz as he had a hard time landing roles. The show is his last chance for his acting career which, fortunately, it did and he became one of the most promising actors of his generation.
  • The Cast Showoff: According to head writer Suzette Doctolero, Julie Anne San Jose's incredible Spanish skills during her audition led to her bagging the role of the Spanish-speaking mestiza Maria Clara.
  • Friendship on the Set: Barbie Forteza and David Licuaco became friends after spending together in the show. Despite being advertised as a love team, both Forteza and Licuaco reiterated their personal lives and careers are separated considering that Forteza is in a relationship with another actor.
  • Irony as She Is Cast: During the show's El Fili arc, Pauline Mendoza plays Juliana "Juli" de Dios while Julia Pascual plays Paulita Gomez.
  • Saved from Development Hell: This show took over three years to finally see the light of day. Although three years may not seem like an overly long time, Filipino shows tend to be developed and filmed much more quickly than the average Western show, plus the production was set to start in 2020 but got delayed by the COVID-19 Pandemic.
