Trivia / LEGO The Lord of the Rings

Go To

  • Accidental Downer Ending: LEGO The Hobbit was released before The Battle of the Five Armies, so the game's story mode ends where The Desolation of Smaug does, with Gandalf about to be defeated by Sauron and Smaug escaping the Lonely Mountain and heading to lay waste to Lake-town. The Battle of the Five Armies was planned to be covered with DLC, but it ended up getting cancelled.
  • Dummied Out: None of the DLC for the first game was made available for purchase on PC, but modders have found that all of the assets for both the characters and items are actually in the code, just hidden away to make an excuse for buying DLC to re-enable them. As such, with some code editing it's possible to make the DLC characters and items usable even on PC.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Due to a licensing lapse, LEGO Lord of the Rings and LEGO The Hobbit were removed from digital storefronts for a while until they were re-added to Steam in April 2020.
  • What Could Have Been: Traveller's Tales originally stated after the release of The Hobbit plans to create DLC adapting the third film when it released, but circumstances caused that to be cancelled and them to move on to making the next LEGO game immediately, resulting in the story becoming an Accidental Downer Ending.
