• Creator Backlash:
  • Kristin Cavalieri doesn't look back fondly at the show, stating in interviews that she refuses to watch it because it "makes her cringe", and that the show was deliberately faked by the network.
  • Jason Wahler has also spoken negatively of his experience on shows like Celebrity Rehab, saying the crew and producers drove the teens to drink as a way to get better performances out of them. He states that this contributed to his subsequent alcoholism over the years.

• Follow-Up Failure: Newport Harbor finished off the ratings slide the third season of the show started. Set in an entirely different area of Orange County, the show was a Retool that followed a different set of students with their own challenges and fights. The show wasn't renewed at the end of that season, and (to date) has never seen a follow-up. For comparison, The Hills, which famously ended with a Gainax Ending in its sixth (and final) season amid a similar ratings slide, garnered enough interest to warrant a Revival, The Hills: New Beginnings a decade later.
