• B-Team Sequel: Neither the first film's director Erick Brevig or Brendan Fraser returned for the sequel.
• Non-Singing Voice: Averted in the 2012 movie; that really is Dwayne Johnson singing "What A Wonderful World" with new lyrics (and again over the end credits, with the proper ones).
• The Other Darrin: Sean's mother was played by Jane Wheeler in the 2008 film. In 2012, it's Kristen Davis.
• Real Life Writes the Plot: Brendan Fraser and Anita Briem were unable to return due to scheduling issues, so their roles were written out.
• What Could Have Been: There was going to be a third film adapting From the Earth to the Moon, but it got cancelled.
