- Before Michael Eisner suggested a show based on A Bug's Life, other shows were suggested for the interior of the Tree of Life, including a show based on The Lion King, which happened over at Camp Minnie-Mickey with Festival of the Lion King (since moved to the Africa area).
- According to Imagineer Kevin Rafferty's 2019 book Magic Journey: My Fantastical Walt Disney Imagineering Career, the show initially featured a parody of The Dating Game called The Mating Game, with Flik as the eligible bachelor and bugs that in nature devour their mates as the bachelorettes. Eisner vetoed the segment because two of the contestants were spiders (the other being a praying mantis) and, in his own words, "An ant would not date a spider."
