• Actor-Shared Background: Hiro, the engine that was saved from scrap in the movie, is implied to be from Japan ^note although it was never explicitly stated until season 24 of the television series. Togo Igawa, the voice of Hiro, is a Japanese actor living in the UK.
• Missing Trailer Scene: In the US trailer, Sir Topham Hatt says "We must help Hiro at once" while standing on the gantry of a signalbox. This scene was never shown in the movie.
• What Could Have Been: The special was originally going to be in the hybrid style of Season 12 (CGI faces on physical models), as was Season 13. This idea got as far as a few face masks being made for Hiro, Victor, and Kevin◊ (for use in far shots), before HiT determined that the models were becoming too expensive to maintain, so the decision was made to switch to CGI full-time.
