- Pre-Broadway runs of the musical feature performers singing along to pre-recorded backing tracks, keeping in line with its origins as a collaborative album with an electronic musician, with only the finale "God Draws Straight" featuring three actor-musicians. While the majority of the songs continue to be sung to be pre-recorded tracks, David Byrne added some live musicians - a drumline - after being informed that his plans were a violation of union regulations, which require a certain amount of live players to provide music for each song. As of August 2023, they now join the floor audience at the curtain call medley.
- Broadway previews retained the sing-a-long of "Here Lies Love (Reprise)" at curtain call. It was eventually replaced by a dance party, and then later the aforementioned medley.
- Perhaps to make the story turns more shocking, early Broadway previews had a dance break before Ninoy Aquino's "Gate 37."
