• Playing Against Type: By the time the movie was made, Vitsin (Sad Sack) had a successful career playing one of Soviet cinema's Comic Trio (as the Coward), and had been typecast to play weak comedic characters with high-pitched voices. In this movie he plays a truly tragic character who speaks with a hoarse voice and tries to commit suicide.
