Trivia / Escape Room (2019)

• California Doubling: The movie is set in Chicago, but was mostly shot in Cape Town, South Africa.
• Life Imitates Art: Shortly before this movie was released in Poland^note and tragically the day the movie released in its origin country, the United States, a real life disaster occurred in a Polish escape room, in which five teenage girls burned to death in a fire. The man in charge of the event, identified only as Miolsz S., was arrested and charged with creating a dangerous fire hazard that led to their deaths. According to prosecutors, the house that contained the escape room had a faulty heating system and no emergency evacuation route. Out of respect for the victims and their families, the Polish release of Escape Room was delayed for a few months after the incident.
• No Stunt Double: Only in the scene when everyone is climbing around the upside-down bar set, as the camera angles made it impossible to use the doubles.
• Similarly Named Works: Another movie with the same title came out two years prior, as they both have very similar concepts. And to make things even more confusing? There was another 2017 movie with the same title released about two months prior to the other 2017 movie.
• Working Title: Went by the name The Maze during development.
