Trivia / Deicide

Go To

  • Creative Differences: Ralph Santolla left because he wasn't getting along with Benton (who, on his end, was getting very sick of Santolla's out-of-control drinking). The Hoffman brothers, meanwhile, were a particularly legendary case, and relations with them had grown so bad by the end that they either had to go or Benton was going to jump ship to Vital Remains and leave Asheim alone at the helm, which would have spelled the end for Deicide. It also resulted in a longstanding grudge between Benton and Eric Hoffman that has continued to this day; "Misery of One" about sums up Benton's feelings about the man, especially since the title is a reference to how his own brother hated him and had gone no-contact after Eric conned him out of a fairly significant amount of money.
  • Development Hell: Overtures of Blasphemy took five years to make. While they did do a decent amount of touring in support of In the Minds of Evil, the departure of Jack Owen likely threw a monkey wrench into things, as did the time that they spent getting Mark English up to speed. Furthermore, they scrapped most, if not all of the tracks written for the album at least once due to apparent dissatisfaction with them, and the ones that they did keep were still subject to a good deal of fine-tuning before they finally got them tracked.
    • To Hell with God was originally set to come out in mid-2009, but didn't see the light of public day until 2011.
  • Magnum Opus Dissonance: Legion is considered to be one of the greatest death metal albums of all time, but the band doesn't care for it and rarely plays material off of it.
  • Promoted Fanboy: Kevin Quirion.
  • What Could Have Been: According to Trevor Strnad, Deicide was eying Ryan Knight for a potential spot shortly after one of Ralph Santolla's departures and very well may have gotten him if The Black Dahlia Murder hadn't made the first move.
