Trivia / Death's Gambit

  • What Could Have Been:
    • Throughout its development, the game's gone through massive changes. The original reveal trailer shows the pre-alpha was wildly different from the released game.
    • Sorun's appearance went through nine iterations before he had his final look. The earliest ones resembled a cyborg like Origa, while some of the latter ones looked more inhuman with weird skin colors. In the time of the reveal he wasn't human. In the end, Sorun was made a human, but his unnatural state of flux made him green-skinned.
    • Sorun would've been able to obtain a Grappling-Hook Pistol, which gave him quite a lot of mobility compared to what he had in the retail version of the game.
    • The Gaian that can be seen in Central Sanctuary's background would've been a boss. Sorun would've used the grappling hook to climb the massive giant and hit its weakpoints.
    • The fight with the Bulwark would've been on a longer and bigger bridge. He also dropped an Aura that gave his wings to Sorun. Afterlife added that aura in the form of the Bulwark's Pride.
    • Ione and Vrael used to be known as Lionel and Sanguinar. Lionel was identical to Ione, but he was a man. Sanguinar had a paler body and wielded a dual bladed weapon instead of a greataxe. Both would've also died at one point in the plot, leaving Sorun in his knees.
    • Sorun would've also had more allies, like the archer Vaye, the axe-wielding Kestral and the Silver Knight-like Rowan. Vaye was also green-skinned and would've been of the same humanoid race as Sorun. Vaye and Kestral were reworked into Nymeria and Grimgaud, who teach Sorun bow and axe-related skills. Kestral's old concept was probably merged with Sanguinar and turned into Vrael, while remnants of Rowan survive in the final game as the smaller Valkyries, who have a silvery color scheme and head wings.
    • At one point, Sorun would've ridden the Phoenix and fought a giant flying serpent. The Phoenix was also originally intended to be Death's counterpart, instead of a relatively mundane if unusual creature.
  • Working Title: The game was known as Terminus before mid 2014.
