• Development Hell: Volume II had a Sequel Hook at the end of Volume I, but it's been nearly a decade and all we've gotten of it are some illustrations from John Conway's Patreon of Mapinguari^note depicted as an enormous bipedal peccary, as opposed to the surviving ground sloth it's usually depicted as, Trunko^note depicted as a giant white elephant seal, and Ropen^note depicted as what appears to be a gigantic rhamphorynchid pterosaur, despite the authors' usual opposition to such portrayals, along with a sneak peek from Tetrapod Zoology interpreting the Loveland Frog as a race of intelligent dimension-hopping lizards from an alternate timeline. According to Naish, the sequel is still in the works, but several other projects have moved in front of it.
• Follow the Leader: Reinterpreting cryptids in a more plausible light was a trend even before this book was published. However, thanks to this book, virtually every single wildlife artist has attempted to come up with their own versions of cryptids that weren't covered in the first book.
