• Actor Allusion: According to Pierce's medical record, his physician is Dr. Rosenrosen. (The same piece of paper gives Pierce's birthdate as Oct. 8, 1943, the same as Chevy Chase.)
• Inspiration for the Work: This episode was based on a short mockumentary film called "The Old Negro Space Program" that writer Andy Bobrow created back in 2007, which had to do with black astronauts being excluded from "white" NASA and forming their own group called NASSA (Negro American Space Society of Astronauts).
• Suspiciously Similar Song: The fiddle solo playing over the introduction sounds quite a bit like "Ashokan Farewell."
