- Executive Meddling: "The Joker Returns" was supposed to end with the Joker's death, but editor Whitney Ellsworth insisted that he be allowed to survive to appear in future stories.
- First Appearance: For both the Joker and Selina Kyle AKA Catwoman (then simply known as "The Cat"). It's also the first appearance of Hugo Strange's Monster Men.
- What Could Have Been: The Joker was initially intended to be killed off at the end of "The Joker Returns", as Bill Finger believed that Batman would look incompetent if the same villains kept reappearing. He was overruled by the editors and the comic was hastily edited to show the Joker surviving, spawning one of the character's most enduring traits.
