Trivia / Band Of Brothers S 1 E 3 Carentan

Go To

  • Approval of God: For the ten year anniversary interviews, Albert Blithe's son called in during Marc Warren's interview and personally thanked him for the portrayal of his father.
  • Awesome, Dear Boy: Rick Warden (Welsh) said that the mortar attack was his favourite scene to shoot in the series.
  • The Danza: Sgt. Farnsworth is played by Sgt. Freddie Joe Farnsworth, Dale Dye's assistant military advisor on set (He was the only person involved with the production who knew how to ride a horse and had an American accent).
  • Deleted Scene: Scott Grimes said he filmed a complicated thirty second stunt scene that involved him on a zipline – that got cut in editing.
  • Enforced Method Acting: Marc Warren did not take part in boot camp training, to emphasize Blithe's status as a Reluctant Soldier.
  • Dated History: In Stephen Ambrose's book, it was noted that Blithe died of his wounds in 1948 and this was commonly believed among Easy Company men. However after the episode aired his family informed everyone that he had lived for another twenty years. They had all just assumed he had died as he never went to any reunions. Some editions of the book and the series have corrected this error.
  • Truth in Television: A poem was indeed composed about the 'Night of the Bayonet' incident. According to Ben Caplan (Smokey Gordon) the real Gordon did compose it himself. However the real poem is lost and the one recited in the show was created by the screenwriter.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Scott Grimes says that they originally wanted him to re-dub his lines in the final scene at the laundry. He refused, insisting that he would not be able to recreate the way his voice cracks as Mrs Lamb names all the dead soldiers.
    • Several scenes did not make it past the draft stage of the script including Malarkey and More looting dead American soldiers' knapsacks, Webster being reassigned to Easy from Regimental HQ, and Winters making the replacements participate in a training exercise with live ammunition (which also would've featured an alternative scene of Guarnere and Heffron meeting where Guarnere could tell Heffron was from South Philly by the way he walked back to base after).
