• Banned Episode: Two entries in the series have been challenged by public school libraries:
  • Bad Kitty Christmas, because it features a lesbian couple.
  • Bad Kitty for President was banned because it features Symbol Swearing. Ironically, other books in the series have included implied profanity without any pushback.
• Tribute to Fido: Nick Bruel based Kitty's design off his childhood cat Zou-zou, who was black with a white tuft on her chest.
