• Died During Production: Patrick O'Brian died in January 2000 after finishing the first three chapters of the 21st book. The Powers That Be published it anyway. It was surprisingly well-received. O'Brian had previously foreshadowed in his books that he had no intention of ending the series, with two characters discussing how many nearly-great stories through history would have been better off with no ending whatsoever.
• Posthumous Credit: The Final Unfinished Voyage of Jack Aubrey was released four years after Patrick O'Brian's death.
