The Reason You Suck Speech / Fairy May Cry

Fairy May Cry

Being a fanfic written by Iron117Prime who's very prone to this, this fanfic is no exception to having tons of these being thrown across other characters.
  • In The Last Promise Natsu manages to rattle Baul by pointing out how far removed his actions are to Sparda's principles.
Natsu: You want to be as strong as Sparda so bad, then don't try and kill his son! If you're really his apprentice, I doubt he'd agree with something like this. I bet the only reason you won't fight Modeus is cause you're scare. That's it isn't it?
  • During the Edolas arc, Dante confronts Erza Knightwalker after breaking out of prison and begins taunting her, all while comparing her to Erza Scarlet.
Dante: I kinda noticed something ever since I came to Edolas. Nearly everyone I've met in this messed up shit-hole world is a double of all my buddies back home in Earthland, I'm even good friends with the Erza in my world, too.
Knightwalker: Are you going to try to appeal to me? Tell me that I'm not too different from the Erza you know? If that is the case you're merely wasting your breath.
Dante: Oh don't worry, that's not where I'm going. See everyone I've met in Edolas is pretty much the opposite of everyone I know back in Earthland. My Erza is one of the strongest and most brave warriors I've ever met; and if you're really her opposite, that makes you a coward.
    Knightwalker: What was that?
Dante: You heard me. You're a coward, plain and simple. My Erza charges in headfirst at a strong opponent, even going up against those stronger than her! You pick on people who are weaker than you, and everywhere you go you always have a bunch of tin-soldiers to guard your sorry ass! You're not just a coward, you're a bully. Have you ever faced a real challenge? I don't think so. I bet you just back away and let your buddy Nelo Angelo do the dirty work for you.
Knightwalker: You dare… No one speaks to me this way…
    Dante: Hey, someone had to.
Knightwalker: I fear nothing! And certainly do not fear you!
Dante: Oh yeah? Prove it! Let's go, you and me, right here, right now! Unless you're too much of a pussy to do anything about it.
  • Later during the Edolas arc Trish delivers two vicious ones, both directed at the Exceeds.
    • The first comes when they're throwing rocks at Wendy and acting smug in the belief of their 'superiority'. Not only does she tear into them verbally, but she also scares them with a display of her lightning powers.
Trish: Listen up you overgrown Furballs! We came here to try and help you, I heard how high-strung all of you are, but after seeing you right now, I don't blame the Edolas Royal Army for what they're trying to do. You all may look different but I've seen your kind of creatures all the time. Monsters who think they're above everyone else. You think you have the right to walk all over people, to treat them like bugs with no regard to the amount of suffering and pain you all cause! So let me make myself perfectly clear. The threat you all face is real; but the choice is yours. You can either run and live, or stay and die. But if any of you want to hurt Wendy or Carla, I promise… (pulls out devil sword Sparda) I'll take you all down myself, just like I've done the demons in my world!
    • The second is directed at Shagotte herself after the Exceed queen reveals to her people the truth behind her God Guise, with Trish wasting little time in tearing into her.
Trish: Now it all makes sense. It explains why you hide in that castle of yours! Do you even understand what is going on down there?! You tried to get every human down there to think you're a god by making them fear you!? Every single one of your Exceeds up here is boasting about how much magic they have, while people are fighting for scraps just to survive! I got news for you, your majesty, that's not a god, that's a devil! Do you know what happens when people become so engulfed by fear?! That fear always turns to hatred, always! The humans hate you, and I can't say I blame them!
  • Dante calls out Faust on his hypocrisy during his battle with him in Edolas, pointing out how he's hoarding all magic for himself than collecting it for his people.
Dante: Quit acting like you're some big savior! You're not! You may have fooled everyone else, but not us! You just want to keep the power for yourself, if you really gave a crap about your world, you would have shared your power instead of killing everyone else just so you can have it all! You're no god, you're just a power-hungry whack job!
    • After fatally stabbing Faust, Dante gives the mad king a final brutal and short speech to him, telling him why he lost.
Dante: You wanna know why you lost? It's not about power, it's about souls. Someone like you who let his soul rot can't measure up by getting power, no matter how much it is.
  • When Dante and Happy fight Iblis of the Seven Sins during the Devil Hand arc, they ask her what she has to gain from working with Vergil. Iblis claims that she intends to become a magic goddess. Dante and Happy are not impressed.
Dante: Did you hear her just now Happy? She wants to become a goddess.
Happy: Yeah I heard her. Looks like we got another cocky, power-hungry, nut-job.
    Iblis: Excuse me?
Dante: You know how many times I heard that kind of speech before? You got some special power, and you automatically think you're on top of the world and that everyone is your little plaything, or an insect to be squashed, or whatever. To me, that's just a load of bullshit. Some of those 'insects' are pretty good people just trying to make their own mark in life, and you got no right to knock them down just because you think you're stronger. That's why I'm here, to knock guys like you down a peg. It's what my old man did, and it's what I'm gonna do.
Happy: Aye! Same goes for me! Weak or strong, we're both Fairy Tail wizards and we're the ones who are gonna protect this world!
  • At the end of the Devil Hand arc, Erza and Lady confront Arkham, who attempts to justify every horrible thing he did in his life, with Erza shutting down his excuses.
Arkham: What have I done wrong?! Even the heroic Sparda sacrificed two women so that he could become a legend! I wish to be a god! And I sacrificed one miserable human for that reason, that is all. Was that really so awful…?
Erza: You don't know anything! Even if Sparda did make a sacrifice like that, he didn't do it solely to become a legend! He did it to protect this world. He may not have been perfect, but he was a caring and noble being who did everything he could to protect others. Everything you've done has been all for yourself. You've schemed, lied, and manipulated so many people to get here. You are no Sparda and you never will be, all you are is nothing more than a heartless monster!
  • After spending an entire day protecting Patty Lowell from demons so she could claim an inheritance, only to learn that another girl named Patty Lowell set her up as the target so she could get the inheritance for herself without worrying about danger, Dante and Lucy tear a new one into the older girl.
Lucy: Do you have even the slightest idea what you put this girl through?! How many times her life was in danger!? All just so you could get the money for yourself?! People like you make me sick!
Dante: And you thought hiring some bodyguards would be your way of atoning, sister? You've got a pretty face, but you're more terrible than those demons. If you could do magic, you'd probably fit right in with a dark guild. And if you were a demon, or even a dark wizard, I'd kill you without thinking twice about it.
  • After Mary Hughes begins to gloat about having brutally beaten several members of Fairy Tail with Mira's exorcised Satan Soul, the latter delivers an absolutely scathing one to her, calling out the fact that despite claiming to serve Sparda's will, she has acted in complete opposite of his ideals.
Mira: To be honest with you, I have nothing but respect for the Dark Knight. A demon who defected to the human world to protect them. Every action he took was to protect those who could not protect themselves, he set a fine example that many today even dream of following. So, when I heard that there was a religious movement that worshipped him, I had hoped they would follow the example he set, by using their own strength and power to protect those without, no finer way to honor his memory. However, if everyone in your precious Order is like you, I know for a fact that Sparda would be every bit as disgusted with your actions as I am! You use your power to hurt those weaker than you, even going out of your way to humiliate and torture them for your own amusement! Even worse, you think all these heinous actions are justified using his name! You and the rest of the Order of the Sword are a disgrace to Sparda's memory! So much so that it makes me want to throw up!
  • Byro attempts to deliver one to Fairy Tail, but a lot of his points are inaccurate, and it doesn't stick. Instead, the members present (Dante, Natsu, Lucy, Michelle, Happy, Lisanna, and Romeo) turn it around on him, pointing out that for all his self-righteous claims that he and the Order are the true followers of Sparda's will, they've shown no hesitation in stepping all over people, sacrificing their own, and have even refused to settle things peacefully when given the chance. What's more, Michelle in particular points out that his insistence on emotions being an unfit guide for decision-making means he's really just trying to avoid being guilty.
  • During Trish and Lady's fight with Gloria, the latter, who's a clone of Trish created by the Order of the Sword, says that she's the superior version of Trish, as she hasn't abandoned her mission, and is perfectly content with being a puppet for Sanctus, as it gives her satisfaction is bringing chaos and death to her enemies. Trish ends up laughing at Gloria before ripping into her.
Trish: You say you're content with being a puppet? That I'm a defect just because I abandoned my mission? You think just because I walked away from Mundus that I don't have a purpose anymore? You couldn't be more wrong. I've abandoned my mission but gained so much more because of that! I have friends now, a family even! I'm a part of something that's far more fulfilling than anything my old maker could offer me! I may not have been born like the rest of them, but I am living with them! And that's the difference between you and me! I'm alive, you're just a soulless mannequin.
Gloria: And you think that makes you superior to me?!
Trish: I know it does. Let me show you something… something I can only gain from being truly alive. (transforms into her Devil Trigger, shocking Gloria) This is the power I've awakened. The power I gained from my desire to protect everything I have. This is my power, not that granted to me by my former master. But you wouldn't know, because you're content with remaining as you are, with no desire to become stronger. And that is exactly why you're going to die here.
  • After Agnus is beaten by Gajeel and Gray he's left wondering how Gray, a regular human wielding Ice-Make Magic, was able to beat someone with power from Sparda. Gray has a strong tongue-lashing for him in response.
Gray: That's exactly why you lost. Just because you had a taste of Sparda's power, doesn't mean you can even hold a candle to him! Instead of babbling on about his strength and power, you should focus on what he did with it! He defected from Mundus to protect humanity because he wanted to, not to be worshipped as a god or even a legend! He even chose to settle down and have a family! That was his choice, and he chose to live his life to the fullest, the same way we do in Fairy Tail! No matter how hard things got for us, we never gave up! We all laugh, yell, or cry as hard as we can! You go on and on about this world being rotten, and humanity being weak, but you can't be any more wrong! All you see is weakness and filth, you're not even trying to look for what it was that made Sparda want to protect this world!
  • Natsu and Nero give a short one to Sanctus near the end of their fight as the Sinister Minister is trying to fight back against them.
Sanctus: The power of Sparda… why won't you give me strength?! Am I not worthy?!
Natsu: Hell no! After all the pain and suffering you caused to everyone, you can't even hold a candle to Sparda! Don't go acting like you're the big hero, you damn monster!
Nero: I never could take those legends too literally myself. But I do know Sparda had a heart, a heart that could love another person, a human, and that is what you lack!
  • During the Naval Battle event, Lucy gives one hell of a speech to Minerva about why she shall never surpass Vergil.
Lucy: I may not be a demon… but I'm worthy of the title than you.
    Minerva: Oh?
Lucy: I heard… how you're trying to surpass Vergil… Let me tell you how that's not going to happen. He and I disagree on a lot, and he's even done things that I can't accept, including hurting my friends. But despite all of that… I know he has his own code of honor. Whenever he wants something, he tries to gain it with his own strength and power. He doesn't hide behind others and let them do the work, and he doesn't take hostages like what you tried! That's the difference between the two of you! He's a warrior, one I have nothing but respect for! You are a coward! No matter what kind of power you have, you'll always be weaker! Because there's no way a coward like you can ever hold so much as a candle to Vergil!
  • After Nero rescues Milliana from Minerva, Lucia gives a brutal one to the Sabertooth wizard, punctuated with a brutal beatdown in her Devil Trigger.
Lucia: That girl from Fairy Tail was right about you. You are a coward. With no power of hostages to hide behind, you're nothing more than a spineless little girl, one I can so easily end right here and now. How easy it would be for me to crush your skull like a grape, to send your vile soul to hell, but that would only disqualify me. Fairy Tail has shown they're more than capable of handling garbage like you, so I don't have to worry about them. But if you ever come near Mermaid Heel again, I will kill you. Do you understand?
    Minerva: Y-yes... I understand...
Lucia: Trash deserves to be tossed, correct?
(kicks her into a pile of ruins)
