Tear Jerker / The Young Six

• In the chapter called "Earth", Sandbar begins to feel sad about being an Earth Pony who cannot fly like a pegasus or use magic like a unicorn. Fortunately, Yona is here to talk him out of this little funk.
  Sandbar: Sometimes... we earth ponies feel a bit... like we don't really do as much as the pegasi or unicorns. It's just...unicorns can do all these amazing things with their magic. Make giant boulders float, teleport, turn one thing into another. And pegasi? Well, you just saw how impressive Professor Rainbow can be. And as for us? The earth ponies? What do we have compared to that?
  Yona: Earth ponies good at growing things, remember? You all good farmers!
  Sandbar: Yeah, that's what we're all taught. Unicorns wield magic, pegasi aid the weather, and the earth ponies tend to the earth. But tell me this. How many earth ponies around here do you know of who actually do farming?
  Yona: Well... there's Applejack, and... um... Applejack's... family?
  Sandbar: Exactly. We earth ponies are best at that, and yet most of us don't actually do that one thing. The rest of the time, we're just... just... ordinary. Look... I'm happy being who I am...and I know I've had a good life that I'd never trade for anything, but... when I think of all the amazing things other types of ponies have been able to do, I just... I don't know.
• Let's talk about the big one: Sandbar's reunion with his childhood friend, Comet Trail.
  • Sandbar was being visited by Comet Trail, who he hadn't seen since they were colts. Everything started out going smoothly with Sandbar introducing Comet to his friends, then everything fell apart when Comet saw that Sandbar was dating Ocellus, a changeling.
  Comet Trail: Is this a joke?
  Sandbar: Um... what?
  Comet Trail: You... you mean to tell me you're dating... that?!
  Ocellus: Wha... what?
  Comet Trail: You heard me, shapeshifter! What did you do to him?! Did you use some of your creepy Changeling magic on his head or something?!
  Smolder: Hey! What's your problem?!
  Comet Trail: My problem?! I was there when these things attacked Canterlot! I know what they are! They're monsters!
  Yona: Changelings no monsters! Changelings friends! Ocellus friend!
  Comet Trail: Bah! What would some dumb yak know about this?!
  • Later on, Sandbar decides to end his friendship with Comet Trail after he refuses to apologize to Ocellus.
  Comet Trail: I... I can't let you do this! I mean... going out with a changeling?! She's... she's a filthy, disgusting... thing!
  Sandbar: If you can't accept this... if you can't accept them... then I guess... that's the end of it.
  Comet Trail: You're not the friend I remember, Sandbar. You've changed.
  Sandbar: ...So have you.
  • Once Comet is gone, Sandbar just seems so angry, but his anger then gets replaced with sadness and disappointment.
  Ocellus: Changelings are used to other creatures not liking us. But... I'm not the one... who just lost a friend.
  Sandbar: I think... I lost that friend a long time ago. I just... just didn't know it... until now. [Getting angry] And you shouldn't have to be used to that, Ocellus. I... I always knew there were ponies out there who felt that way. I just... I just never thought... that Comet would be one of them. [Turns sad]
• "Loss" centers around Silverstream trying to get over the death of her Great Aunt Moonlight Wave.
  • Silverstream putting on a Stepford Smiler attitude before Gallus comes to talk to her.
  • Gallus and Silverstream talking about Moonlight Wave.
  Gallus: Were you close?
  Silverstream: Yeah... We were close. I remember, when I was little, whenever me and Skystar went over to visit, she'd always make these cute little fish toys for us. Made them out of shells and pebbles and... well... whatever she could find, really. I was always happy to see her. She'd always have a smile or a laugh or a joke, and... she was always kind to everyone. There wasn't a single Seapony in Seaquestria who didn't know her or considered her a friend. Everyone always had good things to say to her, and even as she got older, she never stopped doing what she loved. And now, she'll...she'll...she'll never do any of that stuff. She'll never laugh...or joke...or come over to visit, or...
  Gallus: Silver...I know this stuff is hard to talk about...and if you didn't want to say any of this stuff to us, we'd have understood, but...why were you pretending to be happy back there? Like nothing was wrong?
  Silverstream: Because I'm Silverstream.
  Gallus: So?
  Silverstream: Silverstream doesn't cry or look sad or make others around her feel bad or...or...any of that stuff. Silverstream is happy and smiling!
  Gallus: Silverstream...you shouldn't worry about how people see you. Not at a time like this. I'll probably never know what it's like to lose family, not when I never had one. But I know you're probably feeling alone...like things can't get better after this. You shouldn't worry about looking happy to others when you're not. You're sad, and...and that's okay.
• Silverstream crying about the disappearance of the puppy she was looking after.
  Smolder: Hey, it... it's gonna be okay, Silver.
  Silverstream: No! It's not gonna be okay! I brought Mr Yappy here! I thought I could look after him! And now he's gone!
  Smolder: Hey, I'm the one who left the door open, remember?
  Silverstream: Only because I yanked you inside before you could close it! And besides... Mr Yappy was my puppy! I was the one who was supposed to be responsible for him! And now he's...he's...
  • The good news is that Fluttershy finds the puppy before anything bad can happen to him. But Silverstream decides that she's not ready to have a pet for the time being. So she decides to let Fluttershy take Mr. Yappy to her sanctuary.
    • Making it even worse is that as Fluttershy takes him away, Mr. Yappy is clearly unhappy about not being with Silverstream.
• "Regrets" is about Sandbar being overcome with guilt over pretending to betray his friends to Chancellor Neighsay.
  Sandbar: I'm... I'm sorry.
  Ocellus: Sorry? What for?
  Sandbar: For... for what I did. For... betraying you.
  Ocellus: Sandbar...you had to do what you did! If you hadn't tricked Neighsay like that, you'd have been stuck with the rest of us. You wouldn't have been able to get help and... and Cosy would have probably won!
  Sandbar: I know that... but no matter my reasons, no matter how things turned out... I still betrayed you. I made you all feel like I didn't care about you. I... I... I hurt you! When I said what I said... you looked at me... a pony you cared about... saying all of that. You thought I'd abandoned you, that I'd thrown you aside to save myself. Even if it was just for a short while... I made you feel like... like you meant nothing to me. I'll never forget that look, Ocellus. And I'll never forget how much it tore me up to say all of that, even if I did it to save everyone. I was no better... than him. No... no better than Comet!
  • When Ocellus suggests that Sandbar tries to reach out to his childhood friend, he doesn't take it too well at first.
  Ocellus: Sandbar... I think... I think you need to try and reach out to Comet again.
  Sandbar: (Shocked) Wh... what!? Are you serious!?
  Ocellus: Yes... I am.
  Sandbar: But...but why?! Everything he said, to you, to the others, how...how can you possibly suggest that I go back to him?!
  Ocellus: Sandbar... it's been months since the two of you last saw each other. Months since that stallion lost the closest friend he ever had in his life. What he said...it hurt me. Hurt all of us. But... (Sighs) ...I think it might be worth at least trying to mend what happened between you.
  Sandbar: (Angry) Oh yeah? Pardon me for saying so, Ocellus, but if he still feels the way he does about Changelings and Yaks and all the rest of you, there's no way in Tartarus I want anything to do with him! What makes you think he could have changed?
• "Wounds" focuses on Sandbar and Ocellus visiting Comet Trail in hospital after he broke his leg during Cozy Glow's attempt to drain all the magic from Equestria. Comet apologizes to Ocellus for insulting her, but he decides to not be friends with Sandbar anymore.
  • Ocellus was hoping that Sandbar and Comet Trail would be friends again, but when Comet says they aren't going to be friends again, Ocellus is confused and pretty sad.
  Ocellus: This...this is great! I'm...I'm so glad the two of you might actually become friends again!
  Comet Trail: ...No, Ocellus. We're not friends. And...we're never going to be friends again. Are we, Sandbar?
  Sandbar: No... We're not.
  Ocellus: But...but...but...Comet said he was sorry! Things...things can be better between you now...right?
  Comet Trail: Ocellus... some friendships... can't be fixed. What I did...what I said...that was more than what any friend should ever do to another. A dagger through Sandbar's heart. This bridge? It burned down a long time ago...and I'm the one who set it alight. There was never any coming back from this. Not for me.
  Ocellus: Oh...
