- From issue 6 onward, the book has a slow-burn tear jerker that's hanging over every issue: Yusuf Khan is terminally ill with some mystery disease, and there is no known cure. Bright, happy Kamala hits an emotional low point as the news continues to sink in over the next few issues, and she becomes more reserved and even aggressive in her fights whenever something related to her father comes up.
- No matter how much of a Jerkass Woobie or straight-up Jerkass one thinks he is, it's still kind of depressing to see that Josh has fallen from a mediocre but decently well-meaning high school student to a desperate gun-for-hire for D-list supervillains, arguably the least rewarding, most humiliating, and overall worst job someone in the Marvel universe could have.
