Tear Jerker / The Boys in the Boat

• Joe is obviously shocked to see his father again, and is crushed when he realizes his father never bothered to contact or even check up on him since returning to Seattle. His reminder to his father that he was only 14 when he was left to fend for himself reveals that despite having managed to take care of himself (YMMV since Joe is broke and living in a car), being abandoned had a traumatizing effect on Joe and that he was forced to grow up too quickly.
• While waiting in line at a soup kitchen, Joe realizes he's about to be served by one of his teammates. Clearly ashamed, he leaves without getting his meal.
