Awesome / The Boys in the Boat

Go To

  • All of the UW team's wins:
    • Their first victory against the Cal Bears. Arguably this was the most important, as it solidified the boys as a team and established them as a team to watch, not only to the spectators, but to Ulbrickson, who seems to seriously realize the potential of the team after seeing their time in this race.
    • The Poughkeepsie victory, in which Bobby's Slow and Steady Wins the Race strategy pays off and gets them a spot in the Olympics.
    • And of course, the Olympic victory, in which everything seemed stacked against the UW team: they were in the most unfavorable lane, Don was seriously sick, and they were late to the jump after not hearing the starting gun. Despite everything, the UW boys pull off one of the most famous upsets in Olympic history.
  • Ulbrickson's faith in his junior team is repeatedly questioned throughout the movie, but he is steadfast in his belief in their ability to overcome nearly impossible odds. It's implied that he was also an underdog during his days as a rower, and sees his younger self in this team.
