  • Lelouch being arrested and identified as royalty, on so many levels:
    • Poor guy immediately understands his half-brother won't let it go, so decides surrending himself is the better option. He barely has time to send Nunnally off to safety, without knowing if he ever will get to see her again.
    • His friends from Ashford Academy cannot understand why he's suddenly nervous and acting weirdly, until Rivalz is forced to leave him behind for the police. The next time they see him, he's on TV and he looks everything but happy.
    • Clovis believed his two younger half-siblings dead for seven years, so when he understands Lelouch is actually alive, he immediately does everything to find him and bring him home... only for his brother to spit he willingly refused to come back.
  • Lelouch and Nunnally’s goodbye in general.
  • Charles putting his mourning, traumatized son into the Aries Villa to reside — the very place Lelouch's mother was murdered. Needless to say, it doesn't help Lelouch to get in a better mental place.
  • Jeremiah telling Lelouch how he failed to protect the Empress Marianne, almost begging the prince to shoot a bullet in his head. Not only does Lelouch refuse to forgive him, he won't kill him and banishes him from his presence — leaving Jeremiah without any way to redeem himself.
  • Chapter 14. A wedding is supposed to be happy, right? Well, except when your imperial daddy forces you to wed some snooty bitch because her family has economic resources he wants. Lelouch's misery is palpable throughout the entire ceremony.
    • Surprisingly, Abigail is rather woobie-ish too. She's marrying a prince, like any little girl dreamed to do one day. The problem, her prince doesn't want anything to do with her, doesn't want her at all, outright refusing to give her a wedding night and leaving for the army the morning right after. He then refuses to come home for several months, prompting the court to belittle and demean Abigail for not securing her husband's love.
  • Kallen stumbling upon her brother's corpse, after Jeremiah tortured Naoto for information. Nothing can make this scene not awful and horrifying.
  • The fact Clovis was ready to murder Lelouch for finding C.C., in spite of being the one who brought the lost prince back into Britannia's folds. Ultimately, brotherly love wasn't enough to supplant ambition and greed.
  • Jeremiah's utter shock and horror when he understands he shot his prince. Really, Lelouch couldn't have picked a worse Kick the Dog moment.
  • Both Lelouch and Nunnally when her birthday happens and he finds himself unable to visit her. The best he can do is visiting the monument Clovis designed for his missing half-siblings.
    • Suzaku tries to shame Lelouch for not taking a risk. He only manages to upset him further.
  • Suzaku’s reaction when Lelouch hears what really happened to Suzaku’s father is a punch to the gut, especially because we know Suzaku loved his father and is haunted by the guilt of killing him.
  • Lelouch immediately suspects the Emperor of wanting to kill him when Charles sends the Knight of Three to shadow him... and completely freaking out when Gino suggests that maybe, the Emperor is proud of his son and thinking of naming him as his heir. Lelouch is so completely used to his father screwing him over that he's unable to imagine positive interactions and feedback with Charles.
  • Euphy having to deal with the fact that innocent students were targeted simply because she goes to the school.
