A simple guideline for custom titles:
For Work Names
- The custom title should "match" the URL in regards to spelling.
- If the URL for a Retronymed work is Namespace/WorkNameI, the custom title should be Work Name I, not Work Name.
- For Japanese-to-English romanizations, the custom title should use the same spelling as the URL, with macrons added if necessary.
- If a work name needs to be disambiguated, the disambiguation part of the title should be in parentheses, not hidden.
- Example: If two films of the same name were released in 2001 and 2015, the custom titles should be Work Name (2001) and Work Name (2015), not Work Name.
- Avoid all-caps for custom titles (or individual words of custom titles) except in the case of initialisms.
For Trope Names
- Trope names are in title-case, not sentence-case. Articles like "a" and "the" are often left lowercase.
- If a trope's name is directly from a title-case work, such as "Flowers for Algernon" Syndrome, the trope's custom title should match the work name.
Miscellaneous
- The custom title system is never to be used for page renames. The "You Fail X Forever" thing is an aberration that should never have happened.
