Recap / Yu Gi Oh Capsule Monsters E 5 Eye Of The Storm

Go To

Upon entering the glowing door, Yugi and his friends find themselves in a desert. After being attacked by Flower Wolves, nearly suffocated in ice, and losing his Summoned Skull, Solomon Muto is in rough shape, so Tea uses Happy Lover to heal him. A sandstorm springs up, and the group takes shelter in a village that seemed to appear out of nowhere.

A little girl gives Tea a pendant and a scroll, which says that to pass this test the heroes must silence a voice that rides the desert wind. The girl also mentions that someone else once visited this world, but it was a long time ago. The villagers learned that the answer to the challenge lies in the eye of the storm. Yugi and his friends head into the desert, where a female voice taunts them and tells them to give up. She sics Medusa Worms on the group, and as the sandstorm worsens, Joey, Tristan, and Tea attack each other as well as the worms. Making things worse is when the Medusa Worms' spit begins to turn Yugi's friends to stone. Yugi reminds Yami that the eye of a storm is always calm, so that's where they need to go.

Yami Yugi struggles through the sandstorm and manages to see a tornado's funnel cloud, but is too weak to even stand up. When all hope seems lost, he has a vision of a man in a cloak and mask, who tells him to use the sacred armor he wears. The Duel Armor merges Yami Yugi with Dark Magician, giving him the monster's powers, the ability to fly, and improved strength and agility. He cuts through the sand tornado and finds the source of the voice is Mystical Sand, a witch. Yami cuts through her worms and sand demons, resisting her attempt to crush him before silencing her with a Dark Magic Attack.

The first trial is complete, signified by a part of Tea's pendant lighting up, but Yami soon collapses from the strain of using the Duel Armor. He tells Yugi's friends of what happened, and Tea and Tristan note that the village has vanished—the villagers were NPCs to help them get through the challenge. A glowing doorway appears, and the friends head to the next challenge together.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Cast from Hit Points: The first few times he uses the Duel Armor, Yami collapses from the strain.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Thanks to his Duel Armor, once he finally reaches Mystical Sand Yami Yugi defeats her with ease.
  • Do Not Touch the Funnel Cloud: Subverted. A tornado's winds kick up debris and sand some distance from the visible funnel during the First Trial.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Sort of. For his brief speaking role, the Dark Magician is voiced by Michael Sinterniklaas, technically making this Mahad's first appearance in the show a few episodes before his official introduction.
  • Evil Laugh: Mystical Sand laughs constantly as the heroes attempt to defeat her Medusa Worm minions.
  • Foreshadowing: Upon seeing Yami's new Duel Armor, Joey questions if he's gonna get one of his own. Two episodes later...
  • Sand Worm: The Medusa Worms. Made worse when their Super Spit petrifies anyone who gets hit.
