It's time for the Battle City finals to begin, and the first round is Yugi vs. Bakura. The mere fact that Bakura was even able to walk so quickly after his injury makes Yugi suspicious that the evil spirit of the Millennium Ring has returned despite Tristan supposedly getting rid of it in Duelist Kingdom. As the duel starts, Yugi demands that he reveal himself, and Yami Bakura confirms that he is indeed back, much to everyone's shock. The duel starts in Yugi's favor as he quickly dispatches one of Yami Bakura's monsters after another while reducing his life points to the minimum. Yami Bakura eventually manages to summon Dark Necrofear, though Yugi destroys this monster easily as well. Unfortunately, this was Yami Bakura's plan all along, as with Dark Necrofear now in the graveyard, he is able to activate his secret weapon, the field spell Dark Sanctuary. Now the real duel begins!

Once Yami Bakura reveals that his supposedly amateurish moves in the beginning were to allow him to summon Dark Necrofear, Jonouchi wonders why he didn't just put his monsters in Defense Position to minimise the loss of life points. Kaiba, however, explains that Bakura put them in Attack Position so Yugi would attack, and that if he had put them in Defense Position, Yugi would be cautious of effects and might not have attacked.
