- Fate Worse than Death: Xena explained that her path self thought killing Grinhilda/Grendel would be an act of mercy. Instead, she decided to trap her for an eternity as a monster.
- God Is Evil: Odin has become obsessed with obtaining the ring for himself.
- Identity Amnesia: Xena loses any memory of who she was as a consequence for using the ring without forsaking love.'
- Not Quite Dead: Xena thought that Beowulf died from a stab wound. By the time everyone left, it's revealed that he survived the attack.
- Ring of Power: The aforementioned ring. It gives the wielder the power of a god. It made Grendel invincible and allowed Xena to hold off Odin, Grendel and the Valkyries by herself.
