A teenage girl in a Close-Knit Community disappears at the bus stop one morning. The team fears it might be the work of a pedophile, and the case takes a horrible turn when the victim's best friend also goes missing.
Tropes for the episode:
- Bittersweet Ending: Siobhan survives the episode. Annie doesn't.
- Childhood Friends: Annie and Siobhan have been friends since they were in grade school, and mostly only hung out with each other.
- Close-Knit Community: The victims are from a small town of around 7,000 people, the type of town where everyone knows everyone. Deconstructed harshly; the concept of a child being kidnapped in a town where no one even locks their doors is a difficult concept for the townsfolk to comprehend. It gets even worse when Siobhan goes missing not long after Annie does in the exact same way: taking a ride from someone and not recognizing the danger.
- Eating Lunch Alone: Annie and Siobhan aren't exactly popular with their classmates and prefer to keep to themselves.
- Everyone Has Standards: Annie and Siobhan are described as "outsiders" among the other kids in their class, but all of them try to stop Siobhan from leaving the bus stop by herself, correctly sensing that it was a very bad idea.
- For Want Of A Nail: Annie wouldn't have been abducted had she not missed the bus to school and neither would Siobhan had her mother waited with her and/or had she decided to leave the group.
- He Knows Too Much: The agents realize that Siobhan would never have been so foolish as to get into a car with a stranger after Annie's abduction and quickly deduce that the kidnapper must be known to both girls and that he took Siobhan to ensure that she wouldn't be able to tell the police about him.
- Out-of-Character Alert: The agents deduce from the footage on Annie's camera that she turned it on when she became frightened upon realizing that the guy who picked her up wasn't taking her to school as he'd offered to.
- Ripped from the Headlines: Based on the 2002 disappearance and murder of Ashley Pond and Miranda Gaddis.
- Shout-Out: To a couple episodes of The Twilight Zone.
- Wham Line: "I just got a call from the police chief. It's not good."
- Wham Shot: Siobhan's mother walks her to the bus stop, walks away after she assures her that she'll be okay. . . and Siobhan fades from sight just like Annie did, meaning that she's been kidnapped too.
