Charlie's lifestyle of constant partying is starting to become too demanding for his body to take, and trying to keep up with his 24-year-old girlfriend takes a toll. After a trip to the emergency room due to chest pains after a long night out on the town, Charlie finally starts to accept his limitations as an older man.

Tropes

  • Actor Allusion: Berta compares the younger Charlie to Babe Ruth, and Jake asks if she means that he played baseball. Charlie Sheen was a star high school baseball player, and his most memorable film role was as a baseball player in Major League.
  • Age-Gap Romance: 40-year-old Charlie is dating a 24-year-old woman, and has a very hard time satisfying her desire to be constantly active.
  • Feeling Their Age: Charlie staying out all night partying is finally starting to catch up to him. He refuses to accept his limitations, wanting to entertain his much younger girlfriend, and experiences serious chest pains on returning home. Fortunately, it just ends up being bad indigestion instead of a heart attack, but his doctor does inform him that his lifestyle has taken a serious toll on his health, and he's encouraged to start scaling back.
  • Celebrity Resemblance: Alan claims to be Matthew Broderick in an attempt to gain access to an exclusive club. The bouncer doesn't buy it. He does it again at the hospital in order to get Charlie a doctor, and this time it does work.
  • Surprisingly Happy Ending: After discovering that his severe chest pains after a long night of partying were just indigestion, Charlie is nevertheless convinced that he needs to start cutting back on the all-nighters. Alan takes him to a club populated with older women who won't demand to party all the time. Charlie quickly picks one up, and is probably more grateful to Alan than he's ever been at any point in the series.
