Recap / Trollz E 19 Field Trip

Go To

Rock and Ruby have had a fight, and Coal, Flint, Alabaster, Jasper, and Rock are jealous of the girls' magic. The class goes on a field trip to the Trollisborough Museum of Troll history, where they learn about how male Trolls used to have magic before Simon intervened. They also learn how girl trolls get their magic at the Amber Caves' Sacred Altar from amber placed in their belly buttons soon after they're born. Mr. Trollheimer tries to smooth things over by telling the boys about how male Trollz are good with technology, machinery, and physical work, but they're still jealous.

Between that and an annoyed Ruby, sparks fly on the bus ride home, and when Ruby casts a spell to quiet Rock the worst case scenario happens. Mr. Trollheimer is magically incapacitated, the bus breaks down in the woods, and to make matters worse ghost dogs have appeared, and if the bus isn't fixed soon they'll eat everyone. The girls and boys all work together to fix the bus and save their teacher, and the headlights and music come on just in time to drive the dogs away and save everyone. But there's hints the boys are still jealous...

This episode contains examples of:

  • Hypocritical Humour: Ruby complains that Rock was being a big, spoiled baby. Onyx quips, "A little like someone else we know?"
  • Incredibly Lame Fun: Alabaster is excited to be going to the Trollisborough Museum of Troll history. The other boys aren't so enthusiastic.
Alabaster: Come on. Aren't you excited like me?
  • Mythology Gag: The Stone Age Trolls at the museum greatly resemble the original good luck trolls.
  • Nerves of Steel: Ruby and Rock face the ghost dogs out in the open, using magic and torches to fend them off.
  • Percussive Maintenance: When the Trollz are trying to get the school bus started while the ghost dogs are attacking, Alabaster kicks the bus, which finally gets it started.
  • Stylistic Suck: The Trollz see a 50s-style video about then-new technology, such as dishwashers.
Ruby: This movie was old when my parents were born!
