Recap / Tracker S1E6 "The Beast"

Go To

A guide dog intentionally leads its blind owner to be run over at an intersection. Mel's on-and-off boyfriend Detective Vic Bruno is forced to cut their date short to investigate, so Mel calls Cole to pick her up. Cole detects alien energy at the crime scene and decides to investigate himself. The investigation leads him to a kennel, where they learn that the dog was transported to the now-deceased owner on the same train, whose passengers got hijacked by the alien fugitives. Cole concludes that there must not have been enough human bodies for all escapees, so someone ended up taking the dog's body. He correctly guesses that the fugitive in question is Mederan, Zin's loyal Vardian bodyguard, who would have been the last to go through the wormhole. Meanwhile, Zin (posing as a developer named Mr. Andrews) is petitioning the Chicago city council for property rights to a certain area, only to be denied by Councilwoman Joan Elders, who is suspicious of his motives. Zin has Mederan attack and kill her at her home, revealing that Mederan is able to temporarily become a werewolf-like creature when he attacks. Mel follows Councilman Prestin and sees him meeting with Zin and discussing Zin paying Prestin off for his vote. However, Prestin demands more money, and Zin agrees. Cole tracks down Mederan, but the dog escapes after slashing at him. After the vote, where Zin gets what he wants, Prestin gets a briefcase with money, only to learn that the money is fake and to be immediately attacked by Mederan. Cole and Mel arrive too late and fight Mederan, with Cole managing to overpower the creature and take its life force. Vic finally takes Mel on a proper date.

  • Bullying a Dragon: Peters really shouldn't have tried to blackmail Zin for more money. As soon as Cole learns of this, he knows it won't end well for Peters.
  • Compromising Call: While Mel is spying on Peters and Zin, Vic calls her to ask where she is. Instead of canceling the call or setting her phone on silent, Mel just run away and eventually dumps the phone.
  • Corrupt Politician: Councilman Peters not only accepts bribes from Zin, but he also demands more when his vote becomes more crucial.
  • Healing Factor: Cole is able to regenerate small amounts of physical damage to his body.
  • Our Werewolves Are Different: Mederan is able to alter his canine body on a molecular level, temporarily becoming a werewolf-like monster.
  • Stood Up: Mel ends up forgetting about her date with Vic while helping Cole track down Mederan. Vic is shown sitting at the table alone.
