"If there's someone that needs to be saved, I'm gonna try to save them. And if this is the day that I die, then I die standing up. Though I still think it's a fucking drill."

Clay begins the episode with a narration about the car crash with Zach. He says that he's can't help whilst Justin screams at him to stop the bleeding. The hallucination then stops with the reality being students practicing how to stop bleeding from gunshots wounds at school. Clay and Justin fail the assignment whereas Tony and Tyler do well, with Tyler in particular having a high knowledge of treating gunshot wounds; a fact Tony finds unsettling.

During therapy, Clay expresses his frustration about the school exercise. He says that they should be focused on stopping school shootings from happening, not treating gun shot wounds. Dr. Ellman empathises with Clay's situation while Clay says he should be punished as he keeps letting his friends down.

At school, Clay finds Zach and apologises to him about the car crash. Zach's arm was broken and his car was totalled. Zach says to him that Clay left him for dead when the car stopped. Clay doesn't remember anything about it. Zach tells him that he noticed Clay's lack of fear in the situation, that he's a nightmare and needs to stay away from him from now on.

Clay learns there is a new Dean of Discipline for the school. Hansen Foundry has been bought into Liberty to investigate who's been causing trouble at the school. He calls Clay to the office and asks him where he was between midnight and 7am that morning. Outside, Jessica congratulates Clay on getting an interview with a Brown college recruiter the following week however Clay has no memory of this. Panic sets in when Clay remembers his college application, "I covered up a murder".

At the H.O base, Estela is doing homework when Winston comes in. They talk about Monty and how she had found a football book with notes going back two years that had been sent to different members of the team, including Bryce, Diego and Monty.

A Code Red is issued by the Principal, putting the school into a total lockdown. The code indicates an active shooter which surprises Foundry, however he instructs the students to immediately barricade the doors and get under the desks. During the panic, Tony notices Tyler's missing. He tells Alex and Charlie about seeing Tyler speaking to a gun dealer the night before and suspects he may be the shooter. Elsewhere in the school, everyone is following orders. Jessica is alone in the H.O base, Estela is hiding in the girl's bathrooms and Clay is alone in a classroom. Zach and Winston are in the photography room together and the football team are taking shelter in the locker room.

Clay texts Tyler but gets no response. He texts Tony and asks him if Tyler is with him when Clay hallucinates Monty, taunting him about the prospect of Tyler being the shooter. Clay tries to convince himself that it's just a drill. Monty asks Clay if he's scared to which Clay admits he's terrified. Monty tells him that he knows that feeling well. A hallucination of Bryce joins them and asks them if another kid like Tyler is actually behind it.

Estela continues to hide in the bathroom and leaves her mother an emotional voicemail. She then finds Tyler hiding in one of the stalls. They talk about Monty and how Tyler recovered from what had happened to him. Estela wonders how someone would consider shooting up a school but Tyler says that he had considered it once. That all the pain turns to sadness which then fuels anger; the only way to feel strong again is to make people feel that pain too. Estela apologises to Tyler about what Monty did to him and asks if he thinks Monty would be able to change if given the chance. Tyler says he was lucky to have her as a sister and that was what was good in his life.

In the photography room, Winston and Zach are sat on the floor, getting high of weed gummy bears. Winston confesses to Zach that he's in love with Alex because he's the kindest person he's ever known. Zach says he loves Alex as a brother because even though he's done loads of bad things, Alex doesn't judge him. Winston asks him what bad stuff however they're interrupted when they see a shadow pass the door, showing them this is not a drill. Winston asks Zach to tell Alex that he was the first boy he ever loved if Winston dies that day. Zach confesses that he beat up Bryce the night he died however he didn't kill him as the police said Bryce died from drowning. Zach says he does feel partially responsible as if he hadn't of beaten him up, he may have lived after falling in the water. He asks Winston to give Mrs. Walker his apologies if he dies today and Winston survives.

Tony goes through Tyler's stuff and finds pictures of guns printed out in his bag. They hear gun shots from the hallway and Tony decides he's had enough. Despite Alex's warning, Tony takes the pictures to Foundry hoping it will help their situation however Foundry just thanks him and tells him to hide again. Meanwhile, Alex has a panic attack but Charlie is able to calm him down.

In the locker room, Coach Kerba and Justin are trying to barricade the room whereas Diego and the other team members want to go out and face the shooter. Justin tells him that's a stupid idea which makes Diego react saying Justin is fine with Jessica being alone and in potential danger. Things get more heated however Kerba breaks them up, with Justin storming into the office space. When Kerba does a head count, he notices Justin's gone.

In the H.O base, Jessica is calling Ani. She leaves her a voice message, telling her she misses her and hopes her mother is getting better. She then calls her own mother to tell her she loves her. As she finishes her call, Justin crawls through the window. Panicked and thinking he's an intruder, Jessica attacks him before realising it's Justin. He tells her that if he's going to die today, he wants to spend the last day with her and they share a kiss.

After more taunting from the Bryce and Monty visions, Clay decides he's had enough and is going to save anyone he can. He leaves the room and comes face to face with shooter in the hall. Clay screams at them not to shoot before they lift their hood, revealing the shooter to be Clay. As it's another hallucination, nothing happens however the shots he feels are real and terrify him. The Principal opens his door at the end of the corridor, bringing Clay back to reality. He shoos Clay in and tells him the lockdown is a drill after all. It was designed to show students and staff what it would be like and how to follow the protocol. The only person who didn't was Clay, who would be dead now if the drill was real. The principal announces the lockdown is over and people can come out. Tyler is shaken up by the whole ordeal. Alex thanks Charlie for helping him through his panic attacks and the pair kiss. Tony realises his mistake and what it might mean for Tyler now they know the situation was just a drill. Zach also realises that he'd told Winston his secret and that he needs to keep quiet about it. Winston says he's aware Zach isn't the killer but he must know who is.

Clay is traumatised by the situation and leaves the office into the hallway. Principal Bolan is congratulating the security officers which infuriates Clay. He screams that the school is killing everyone and that they shouldn't be teaching students to prepare to be hunted. They should be preparing to live their lives, not practicing how to cheat death. Bolan reasons that they are trying to keep them all alive in situations like this but Clay just sees it as a tick box exercise on their behalf. One of the officers tries to calm them down, however Clay grabs the end of the gun, in complete hysterics. Another officer then tackles Clay before being knocked out.

Clay is seen struggling against the restraints around his ankles and wrists on a stretcher as the rest of the students, including the main group watch in shock.
