• Cliffhanger: The ending of the episode. The Waygate is closing and Mat still hesitates to enter it.
• Cruel Mercy: Siuan Sanche refuses to kill Logain, since that would just make a martyr of him. Instead, she condemns him to end his days as a test subject for the Aes Sedai, and a warning to other false Dragons.
• Establishing Character Moment: Subverted for Siuan Sanche. Her behavior towards Moiraine in the Hall of Sitters, towards Nynaeve and Egweine in her study and towards her lover (also Moraine) while in her bedroom (as well as her outfits and hairdos) differ so much, she may just as well be three different people. She's got many masks.
• Fate Worse than Death: Logain clearly regards Sanche's Cruel Mercy judgment as this, and not without reason, as we already know that being stripped of the ability to channel has driven at least one other man like him to suicide.
