Recap / The Saga Of Avatar Korra Book 1 Ch 3 The Missing Child

Go To

The chapter is divided into three main segments. The first introduces Bolin and Mako as they rob people. The second is with the World Leaders discussing the issues of the Earth Kingdom. The third is around the flashbacks to when Korra was a child.

Tropes:

  • Adaptational Heroism: Lin is far nicer to Tenzin in this chapter than she was at the beginning of canon.
  • Adaptational Villainy:
    • The Earth Queen appears to be even worse in this story than in canon based on the number of refugees.
    • Tarrlok seems like even more of Jerkass in this story than in canon.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Tonraq and Tenzin are right that the world leaders should not be dismissive of the idea of Korra being the Avatar, and history has proven that finding the Avatar is essential and could help solve the current crisis. Tarrlok is right that the Earth Kingdom issues are pressing, and they require more immediate attention.
  • For Want Of A Nail: In canon, the Red Lotus did not attempt to kidnap Korra until she was five and after she was confirmed to be the Avatar. In this story, Korra is kidnapped by the Red Lotus prior to the White Lotus confirming her identity along with some other children who were around the right age. As a result of the Red Lotus making their move first, Korra had fewer people to protect her, and the Red Lotus were successful.
  • The Ghost: The Earth Queen is mentioned a few times, but she does not appear nor does she send a representative.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: While Tarrolk could have been nicer to Tonraq, he did have a point that the problems the Earth Queen presents is a more pressing matter than searching for Korra who has been missing for fourteen years.
