- Anachronism Stew: The whaling ships use cannon-powered harpoons. Although there had been experimental harpoon cannons as early as the 1730s, most whalers threw their harpoons by hand until the modern harpoon cannon was invented in 1870.
- Gentle Giant: Spot the killer whale. Though many of the Atlanticans are afraid of killer whales, Spot is friendly and harmless...except to anyone who tries to hurt Ariel.
