  • As the Good Book Says...: Grace claims she just doesn't understand the Leviticus quote demanding the death penalty for gay sex, but that she has to try to understand it.. Pamela says it's her religious conviction. Mr. Canning argues that this was Moses's decree to the Levites. Pamela counters that just because Jesus's sacrifice tempered the need for punishment, what's wrong is still wrong.
  • Call-Back: When the firm hired a new associate a few episodes ago, it was Caitlyn vs. Martha. This time, it's the same, but in arbitration court.
  • Central Theme: Does religion justify… anything, really?
  • Heteronormative Crusader: Pamela. Her former boss Mr. Clove cites her homphobia as a reason not to hire her. Pamela defends herself saying she was merely defending a public figure who compared homosexuality to beastiality.
  • Hidden Depths: Eli has perfect pitch because his parents wanted him to be a concert pianist.
  • Mistaken for Flirting: The dean massaged Pamela's shoulders the day before firing her. She refused, and he argues that he does that with all his staff as encouragement.
