First Week

Diane moves into her new office. Marissa gets hired as her assistant.

Maia and other associates are enlisted to do pro-bono work for a company. One of the workers claims the company falsely accused him of stealing shoes so they could skim his paycheck. Maia enlists Lucca's help to bring his case to court, and it turns into a class action suit when Marissa finds more employees the company have been ripping off.

Tropes

  • A Family Affair: Maia discovers that her mother is having an affair wih her uncle Jax.

  • Armor-Piercing Question: Luca asks the manager of Gwynn's workplace why he would keep Frank on their payroll if they believed him to be a thief.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Luca and miss Stevens take turns pretending to want to talk about the case but instead talking about hair stylists.
  • Blatant Lies: Lenore acts so unconcerned about her alleged cancer scare that Maia doesn't believe her.
  • Distinction Without a Difference: The company Frank Gwynn works for claims it didn't coerce him into confessing; they just used an interrogation technique that is based on coercing people into confessing.
  • Faking Another Person's Illness: Henry tells Diane that his wife's breast cancer is back to manipulate his daughter into seeing her.
  • Misery Builds Character: Invoked by Boseman, who thinks Maia could grow strong from all the hate levelled at her.
  • Mistaken for Racist: David Lee sends Diane's belongings over to her new office, along with a box full of African tribal masks, trying to invoke this trope.
  • Those Two Guys: Reddick & Boseman has two analysts on their payroll. Their job is to work out what cases to take to make money. They almost always advice again taking the interesting cases.
