The Mombasa Cartel (No. 114) provides examples of:
- Even Evil Has Standards: It’s already been clear that Red hates sex traffickers since the second episode but he also apparently hates poachers.
- Evil Poacher: Amongst others, The Mombasa Cartel who have been known to kill innocents who are in their way including Dembe’s family.
- Hunting the Most Dangerous Game: "The Mombasa Cartel" episode includes a group who operate a game preserve featuring human prey. Ressler gets caught up as one of the hunted when he investigates.
- Psychopathic Manchild: Geoff Perl’s younger son Matthew, despite being quite old, acts as innocent and intelligent as a young child...except for the habit of hunting and stuffing people.
- Rape as Backstory: Red says that Dembe was sold to a ring of flesh peddlers by the Mombasa Cartel and that he was found by Red chained up in the basement of a brothel. Considering that he also has the brand of The Everhardt Cartel, a group of sex traffickers, it seems likely that Dembe was forced into sex slavery as a child.
