Recap / Superstore S 6 E 9

Go To

Still feuding due to their disagreements from last episode, Cheyenne and Mateo try to attract coworker attention. Glenn gets frustrated with Zephra's changing store policies, and Sandra and Marcus help him dig deeper into Zephra. Jonah becomes insecure about his friendship with Garrett.

Tropes:

  • Beat Without a "But": Dina tries to positively compare Glenn to paper coupons before giving up and getting distracted.
Dina: You're like the old paper coupons. You were kind of a nuisance but arguably served a purpose, and now you're... useless but...
    Glenn: But?
Dina: Oh, carrot cake Oreos are back. That's fun. [walks away]
  • Biting-the-Hand Humor: When Cheyenne says Mateo looks like a Pixar character, Mateo snaps back by simply saying Cheyenne would be a DreamWorks character. DreamWorks is owned by Universal, which also produces NBC shows like Superstore and frequently uses the network to promote DreamWorks products.
  • Corporate Conspiracy: Glenn comes across a sketchy site that claims Zephra is using 5G to control customers' minds. Sandra and Marcus feed into it further by pointing out how Zephra uses their data to send them targeted coupons.
  • Embarrassing Old Photo: Cheyenne puts an embarrassing photo of Mateo up on the Cloud 9 TV displays. When he protests, she changes it to a photo of him when he was younger with dorky hair.
Isaac: He looks like one of those little boy band boys!
Mateo: At the time, that was the best hair you could have.
  • Hypocrite: Jonah gets hung up on the fact Garrett completely forgot about an argument they had a while ago. Garrett later points out that Jonah never considered the times he hurt Garrett's feelings and forgot about it later, such as when he ditched a dinner with Garrett to eat with Amy. It's implied that Garrett might have made it up just to guilt Jonah, though.
  • Sanity Slippage: Glenn becomes more and more obsessed with the conspiracy that Zephra is controlling everybody's minds, culminating in a breakdown where he sits on a sled and downs orange juice (which he's not supposed to have due to his diabetes).
