Go To

Reki starts to realize how far behind he's falling compared to his other friends and Langa, wondering if he'll even match up to their skills when no one else will take him seriously.

Tropes:

  • Anger Born of Worry: Reki is frustrated and doesn't understand why Langa would want to race against a monster like Adam when he saw what had happened to Reki during his race. Reki then angrily brushes Langa's reassurances off and decides they shouldn't be friends anymore.
  • Broken Tears: Reki as he realizes how skilled Langa has become, while he can't even pull of any of his stunts and feels like he's being left behind.
  • Can't Catch Up: Reki begins to realize this when Langa shows off his skills to him and starts spiraling into a depression about how he's become a nobody at S.
  • Friendship-Straining Competition: As Adam announces his tournament, this ends up contributing to Reki's frustration about himself as a skater and Langa breaking his promise of not skating against Adam.
  • Gray Rain of Depression: As Langa confronts Reki about why he's been avoiding him lately, it's raining heavily as Reki unloads onto Langa that he doesn't feel adequate compared to Langa and everyone else and decides to stop being friends with Langa.
  • Ignored Raised Hand: Unlike the day before, when Langa goes to greet Reki and holds his hand up for a high-five, Reki completely ignores him. This is mainly because he was lost in his own thoughts and only snaps out of it when Langa calls out to him.
  • Innocently Insensitive:
    • Shadow jokes about how everyone at S only knows Reki as "that guy who's with Snow" and how Miya's previous words calling Reki "not talented enough" start to eat at Reki's self-esteem. It soon culminates into him falling into a depression and breaking off his friendship with Langa.
    • Even Langa unintentionally makes Reki feel more isolated as he talks about how excited he is in wanting to skate against Adam again or not realizing that Reki is not his usual self.
  • Noodle Incident: When Cherry gets annoyed at Joe's answer about his "instincts" Joe angrily reminds Cherry of the time he had lost his wallet during a school trip in LA and it was thanks to Joe's instincts that they found it. Cherry then corrects Joe saying he just lead them around to a random restaurant in LA thanks to his "instincts". Joe then switches to when they went to a nice restaurant in Paris which Cherry immediately shoots down as he says he had to make the itinerary for their time out there.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Reki starts to talk and smile less throughout the episode, clearly showing the viewers something is really wrong with him. Unfortunately, Langa and the others don't really pick it up until it's too late.
  • Plot-Mandated Friendship Failure: The previous episodes have culminated into this one where Reki begins to realize no one at S knows who he is and how far Langa has come in terms of skills despite only skating for a few months. Coupled with his fear of Adam, his friends unintentionally bringing him down and Langa's obliviousness, Reki decides at the end of the episode the two shouldn't be friends anymore.
  • Title Drop: Reki mutters these words as he cuts off his friendship with Langa and walks away in the rain.
