- Five-Second Foreshadowing: When Sarge comes to get Simmons and Grif, it's hinted that Grif is now a Sergeant.
- Rank Up: After Red Team was reassigned, Grif was promoted when Sarge refused to leave Blood Gulch. Naturally, Grif botched his assignment.
- Selective Obliviousness: Sarge takes this to new levels; He is unable to physically comprehend that Grif has the same rank as him.
