Ash and co. unexpectedly run into their old friend Spoink again, drifting in the ocean. After they rescue it, Spoink accidentally loses its pearl again, but this time in the ocean, so there's no chance of retrieving it. Since Spoink's pearl comes from a Clamperl, our heroes try to find a Clamperl in order to help Spoink, and stumble onto a Pokémon lab where Clamperl are being studied.

- Didn't Think This Through: Ash's Torkoal decides to jump into the ocean to search for Spoink's pearl, seemingly forgetting that it's a Fire-type and that it can't swim.
- Head Pet: Spoink picks up various round Pokémon, mistaking them for its Pearl. Most of them are confused or distressed, but Swablu seems to like it.
- Here We Go Again!: Spoink loses its pearl again, but this time there's no way to retrieve it since it loses it in the middle of the ocean.
