Japanese Title: Connect to the Future! The Legend of the Radiant One!!!!

Original Airdate: September 13, 2018

US Airdate: February 9, 2019

Necrozma has taken control of Nebby. As the Guardian Deities hold the Matori Matrix off from trying to enter Ultra Space, the people of Alola attempt to save their islands by giving their light.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • But Now I Must Go: Poipole decides to return to its own kind in Ultra Space.

  • Chekhov's Gun: Poipole does not have its pendant taken off when it's allowed to stay with its hive. This allows them to identify it later when it returns during the Alola League.
  • Reality Ensues: Faba figures out Kukui is the Masked Royal only when he pulls out the Incinium Z. A lot of experienced trainers have an Incineroar, but it's implied Kukui is the only one who has that specific Z-Crystal.
  • Secret Keeper: Faba becomes a second one for Kukui once he figures out he's the Masked Royal.
  • Secret Weapon: Professor Kukui pulls out one in the form of his Incineroar (which the cast didn't know he had, due to him keeping it a really well hidden secret) to defeat Gozu in the first half of the episode.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Downplayed, as it's likely the only time it will be pulled off. Lunala gives Gladion the Lunalium Z, allowing him to give it the Z-Move Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom.

  • Victory Pose: Professor Kukui & Faba perform one, where they imitate a growling lion after beating Gozu, with Incineroar joining in on the pose.

How well does it match the trope?
