• Call-Back: Apparently, Frogadier remembers the events of "Lumiose City Pursuit!", since he is among those who tried to stop Ash from jumping into the volcano to save Fletchinder.
• Fun with Subtitles: Trevor was quite the Motor Mouth that the subtitles had to be minuscule just to fit his entire speech at the bottom of the screen.
• Recycled Premise: The group's meeting up with a photographer friend, who's on a mission to capture a legendary bird on camera? We talking about this episode, or the Johto saga's "Freeze Frame"?
• Shout-Out: After Clemont's latest machine explodes, Bonnie groans, "Another one bites the dust."
• Too Dumb to Live: While it was a noble thing to do, Ash dives straight near the lava to save Talonflame. He would have been dead had it not been for his Frogadier saving him.
• Took a Level in Badass:
  • Congratulations, Ash! Your Fletchinder evolved into Talonflame!
  • Talonflame learned Brave Bird!
• Wowing Cthulhu: Moltres wasn't even close to getting defeated; it only leaves the heroes alone after seeing Ash's selfless (and reckless) Diving Save for Talonflame's sake.
